Irish House Prices Still Falling...

House prices go into reverse as property register takes guesswork out of buying... HOUSE prices fell last month in a move that reverses rises in the previous three months. The fall of 0.6pc in October means that prices have now risen in five of the 10 months of this year so far.  The value of the average property in the State is now half of what it was during the peak in the market in 2007. Dublin prices were down 0.2pc in October, and are 7pc lower in the year so far. Residential property prices in the capital are 56pc lower than they were when the market was at its highest, according to the CSO index. Prices outside of Dublin were down 0.9pc last month, and are now down 47pc from the peak. Some property experts said the introduction of the new property price register in September prompted falls in prices, as people can now seen exactly what prices houses and apartments are selling for, rather than relying on estate agents. House Price To Fall 60pc...

New blow for house price hopes as market set to fall 60pc from 2007 peak... HOPES of property prices settling down have received a new blow, with a prediction that values will plunge by 60pc from the peak. Prices have already halved, but now credit ratings agency Fitch said they are set to keep falling. A fall of 60pc from 2007 would mean the average house price falling to €125,600 from €314,000 at the peak. There had been some optimism in the last few weeks that prices could be reaching a floor, particularly in Dublin. But the latest official figures show that property prices fell in June, dashing hopes that the market was close to stabilising. The fall of 1.1pc in prices in June recorded by the Central Statistics Office reversed a rise that was recorded in the previous month. Dublin apartment prices now down 62pc, says CSO THE house prices freefall has worsened, with some properties now up to 62pc cheaper than at the height of the boom five years ago. February alone saw one of the largest single monthly falls on record - 2.2pc, a figure surpassed only during two months in spring 2009. Apartments in Dublin are worst hit by the crash, while the overall fall in the value of all properties in the capital is now up to 57pc. The Central Statistics Office also warned that in the last 12 months prices have come down by 17.8pc. That is compared to a 10.8% fall in the year to February 2011. A breakdown of the Residential Property Price Index since the slump hit exactly five years ago showed: - Nationally, the crash has wiped 49pc off values; - Houses in Dublin are down 56pc but apartments 62pc - Outside of the capital, prices are down 45pc on average. House Prices Lowest Since 2000...

House prices now under €200k, lowest since 2000... HOUSE prices in Dublin have fallen below the €200,000 barrier for the first time since the early months of 2000. Values fell by almost 17pc last year - the fastest annual decline in almost two years, official figures have revealed. The average cost of a home is now about €165,000 based on prices at the peak of the property boom in February 2007 while in Dublin prices have fallen to €198,260. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has reported prices down by 47pc in the last five years. On top of that huge crash, the record for December shows house prices falling at their fastest rate since February 2010 and a steady increase in the rate of decline all through 2011. The average price paid for a house nationally in February 2007 was euro €311,078, while in Dublin it was €431,000, according to the accepted report on mortgage drawdowns by Permanent TSB. Property Prices Keep Plunging...

THERE was further gloom for homeowners after property prices plunged again last month. Prices have been diving now for almost four years. And there is no let-up in sight, with economists predicting prices will keep going down next year. The average residential property has lost almost €150,000 in value since the peak and is now worth around €169,000, according to the latest gloomy figures. Around €232,000 has been wiped off the value of houses and apartments in Dublin as the capital continues to suffer much sharper price declines than the rest of the country. The new figures from the CSO also show that the annual rate of decline in prices jumped to 15.6pc in November. Prices fell by 1.5pc last month and are now down 46pc from the peak of the market in early 2007, the official figures show. House Prices Will Keep Falling...

Market hasn't hit bottom despite 40pc drop in four years, say economists... HOUSE prices are likely to continue to fall for another two years, analysts predicted yesterday. It came as a new, official index of residential property prices from the Central Statistics Office showed a 12pc fall in the past year. It also found that the pace of decrease has picked up in the past two months Prices are down 40pc from their peak level in 2007. Dublin has suffered much higher losses in value, with the crash cutting prices almost in half. In the rest of the country they are down by a third. The fall of 47pc in the capital contrasts with a plunge of 35pc elsewhere. Sharp drops in prices were recorded in February and March. The fall of 1.7pc in each month was the highest since July 2009. Census to answer questions about state of nation... ARE WE losing our religion and getting divorced more often than before as the recession tightens its grip? Some 5,000 staff working for the Central Statistics Office (CSO), who are called enumerators, will begin distributing green Census 2011 forms to all 1.8 million households across the State from today. Everyone who is in the State on Sunday, April 10th, must fill in one of the 24-page forms, which include a range of personal questions designed to create a comprehensive picture of the social and living conditions across the State. Family fortunes fall €43,000 in two years... THE average family has lost €43,000 in the value of its pensions, shares, bank deposits and other assets in just two years, shocking new official figures reveal. At the height of the boom, in 2006, the average household had financial assets worth €95,200, but this has now nearly halved to just €51,500 today. The huge fall is highlighted in figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO). It comes as workers have been hit hard by the introduction of savage income levies and pay cuts. The scale of the destruction of household assets is unprecedented in the history of the State.
